Synopsis:

A young Kyrgyz girl works as a truck driver, a male-dominated and physically demanding job, as a way to pay for medical school at Columbia University.

Aisha Sultanbekova

Aisha Sultanbekova studied Journalism and Mass Communication at American University of Central Asia. She was born in a remote area of Kyrgyzstan in 1996. Aisha made her debut short documentary film Ad Astra with no prior experience in filmmaking. Ad Astra was shortlisted in many international film festivals, including: 62nd SSFILM (USA), 37th BBVA Torello Film Festival (Spain), Olympia Film Festival (Greece) and etc. In 2021 she was awarded a prestigious scholarship FULBRIGHT sponsored by the U.S. government, and started doing her MFA in filmmaking at the University of Texas at Austin (UT). Currently she practices her skills as a director both in narrative and documentary.
